Dromida Ominus - Best quadcopter for Beginners?

This weekend I got to try out the Dromida Ominus. This is the first quadcopter to be released by the company. They used to be only into RC cars but I guess they saw the popularity of the quadcopters rising higher and higher. I gotta say this is pretty good first step for them.

The Dromida Ominus comes with everything you need to start flying as quick as possible.  You get the quadcopter, controller, battery, usb charger, the user manual, and even some extra props in case you end up damaging them in flight. Dromida was also nice enough to include AAA batteries for the controler. The quadcopter has a unique frame which makes them stand out from the others. The head of the Ominus curves downward from the tip giving it a reptile look to it. If you see it from the top then you know what I'm talking about. Each of its four legs have a LED light that can help with orientation.
You also have a big singular LED at the back of the Ominus. It's available in four colors and they all have same color blades to match. If you check out the Dromida site they tell you the Ominus is super tough and impossible to break. As an amateur pilot, this appeals to me immensely because I don't want to put money down and have it break the next week. To no one's surprise, I did end up crashing a few times but it came out fine. The body is singular so everything is connected with no detachments.

It's made of sturdy plastic and each of the rotors have rubber mounts to help with landing. The battery is a bit vulnerable because it's just underneath the belly of the quadcopter with minimal protection. The best thing I have to say about the Ominus is it's average flight time. I got to stay a whopping 12 minutes in the air which is great for the price. Charging wasn't so long either with a full charge taking up to 45 minutes. What's even better is the batteries aren't pricey so you can buy extras to keep the fun going. Once you get it in the air, there's no turning back. This baby has some serious speed to it. I experienced good stability in hover and flight which is due to its 3 -axis gyroscopes and accelerometers. It's able to fly indoors and out but just be careful with moderate wind speeds when you fly outside.
You can perform trick flips with the Ominus but be careful with the recovery. For some reason the quadcopter wobbles for a bit after a flip. It seems like the gyroscopes are trying to catch up. Just get enough air before you do a trick so you don't end up crashing. The controller is like a PC joypad so I immediately got comfortable with it. You have three speed rates (beginner, normal, advance) to switch between that are enabled by clicking in the right stick. Also on the joypad is a button, when pushed, starts the flip mode. All you have to do now is just press the stick in the direction you want and the flip is done automatically. If you want to enable expert mode then just press the button on the right shoulder. In this mode, the accelerometers are disabled giving you full control of the Ominus.
